Each acting performence is made to be surreally unnatural, but it still retains believable humanity. As a result, violence and intense scenes can be more impactful because the lack of natural social performances leaves a feeling of uncertainty and insecurity.
Many of the characters speak in an incredibly blunt way mostly devoid of any real emotion, this is not so much disturbing or frightening but it does add to some of the disturbing dialogue and acts that the characters say or do.
