50 years after the march on Washington, a Korean American filmmaker travels the South to understand why her adopted country is so divided. She happens upon the Moral Monday movement in North Carolina: a series of protests that would soon gain national fame. As the North Carolina General Assembly passes a series of harsh new policies, including voting restrictions destined to be challenged by the US Department of Justice, nearly a thousand people are arrested outside their chamber doors. Led by the charismatic Rev. William Barber, Moral Monday becomes a powerful critique of conservative ideology using Christian ideas. Beneath a vicious political fight, the filmmaker uncovers a story about love, and an American people who long to be together in spirit, not separated.
