As a direct result of urbanization, Fang must relocate his father's grave. He digs out the ashes and brings it back to his rented house. However, his superstitious landlord finds out and refuses to allow a dead man's ashes to be kept in the house thus Fang must hide the ashes in a cookie jar. Fang suffers trials and tribulations looking for a final resting place as cemetery prices have skyrocketed and are much more than his compensation. He finally comes full circle, returning to the site where his father's tomb used to be, and places the ashes in the cookie jar underneath the symbolic foundation of the new building. The next day Fang's fathers ashes are honorably buried in a large foundation laying ceremony.
