A woman meets a man late at night, and after sharing a passionate kiss the scene cuts to the two of them in bed. Neck and shoulders are visible while they talk - sex is implied.

Overhead views of a cemetery depict several mangled and bloody corpses after roman soldiers are ambushed.

A handful of scenes depict the crucifixion of Jesus Christ along with 2 other men. Most of it shows the presence of stained blood, and evidence of torture, without the actual driving of nails and beating being shown. The most graphic of these is a distant shot of a spear being driven into his side, and blood and water gushing from his side and down the cross.

The film contains some battle sequences which show soldiers exchanging slashes, as well as a prolonged depiction of a naval battle, focusing mainly on the plight of the slaves below deck.

Stronger depictions of violence include a scene where a man is shot in the neck with a flaming arrow; a scene where a man is set on fire; a scene where men are trampled by horses and run over by chariots; a scene where a man's face is forced against the wall while in a chariot race causing blood to spurt; etc.

There are several depictions of violence during the chariot race - Workers are placed in peril, resulting in their deaths; their bodies are mangled and contorted resulting in broken bones that bend unnaturally. Another event results in the audience being ravaged by horses as a chariot crashes into the stands, and the camera dwells on the aftermath as horses kick and trample people.

One of the chariot drivers in the race is run over by the main character, but holds on for a prolonged and close-up shot of his crazed expression before the camera switches to a low shot of him being mangled under the chariot.

During a shipwreck in the midst of a sea battle, slaves are dragged under water by the weight of dead bodies. A character, still alive must save himself by extricating himself from the chain and bodies. The scene is graphic and tense, and may disturb younger viewers.
