The river Tisa separates the towns Sighetu Marmatiei (Romania) and Slatina (Ukrainia). There used to be a bridge, but this was destroyed during World War II. The northern bank became part of the Sovjet Union while the southern bank became part of Romania. Nowadays, the northern bank is part of Ukrania. The river still separates nearby family members and towns and villages. With support of the European Union, a new bridge is being planned and built in three years time.
