Shirley Deane left the United States in 1956 to work her way around the world as an accordionist. After making her way through Europe, the Middle East, and most of Africa, Shirley left the accordion behind to search of life's meaning. Standing against death threats, she published the first 'Who's Who' of Black South Africans, and was cured of asthma by an unani hakim in Kashmir, India.
