Helen's mother attempts to commit suicide by drowning in a lake. When her daughter calls for her, it is almost as if she can't hear her. Her daughter follows her into the lake and it is not until Helen taps her that she is able to come back to reality and not continue to attempt suicide.

In the end of the film at the premiere, P.L. Travers breaks down crying when she sees George Banks' redemption. Although it's depicted dramatically, it actually reveals a powerful personal significance for her.
