The region of the Ribeira Valley is the largest remainder of what is left of Brazil's Atlantic Forest. It is home to many traditional people such as Native Brazilian Indians, Caiçaras (traditional people who live on the coast), Quilombolas (communities of slave descendants) and small farmers. In spite of the provisions of article 68 from the Federal Constitution of 1988, whereby the Quilombolas are guaranteed the property of the land they occupy, few communities have acquired the ownership of their respective land. This documentary is about the struggle of the Quilombolas in the region, a story that started three hundred years ago.
