A little girl who lost her home talks with one of her wealthy neighbors, who is a power behind the forced urban renewal, and asks him, why. Her innocent questions open the door to a classic story of American immigrants and what happens when society displaces them. Set in the Fox Point Cape Verdean community of Providence, Rhode Island in the 1950s, 'Hi, Neighbor' is a personal narrative, or memory conversation, interweaving vintage photographs and Cape Verdean music to show what happens when the entitled residents at the top of the hill clash with those at the bottom of the hill who have been disadvantaged by race, class and ethnicity.
