The scenes of the turmoil in the family is played off very realistically, showing what could easily be considered abusive parenting. As well as mistreating and neglecting their children, the parents also constantly fight with each other, including mild violent acts. This could be very distressing to children, especially if they have experienced anything like this themselves.
