Migration is a significant livelihood option and a major development issue for Bangladesh. About three million Bangladeshis live in the Middle East and send approximately 70% of all remittances received by Bangladesh. Yet the social welfare of workers is not a major concern at any level. Labor abuses, dishonored contracts and forced returns has generated tens of thousands of broken families, created poverty and destroyed the hopes of many.
