Alex is a young man taking his first steps in international high finance. He accepts a job at the company of tycoon Frank Martínez. There he meets Émilie, the millionaire's daughter, with whom he falls in love and ends up marrying. Later, he realizes that Martínez's companies are involved in illegal money-laundering activities, with ramifications that go all the way to far-off in Brazil, where Alex is sent to. Much to his misfortune, he gets involved with Paulinha, a sensual transgender mulatta, daughter of Ciro, one of the biggest operators of the clandestine numbers game called 'Jogo do Bicho'. He dives with her into a chaotic life in which sex and cocaine are the common currency. This ends up giving Frank the necessary pretext and proof both to manipulate Alex's marriage with Émilie and, mainly, to maintain him in the important position that he's reached in the millionaire's companies. To seek vengeance from his father-in-law, he agrees to get involved with the racketeer Ciro, who he starts helping to launder the enormous profits generated by his many illegal businesses. From clandestine gambling (Jogo do Bicho) to drug and arms trafficking. From relations with corrupt cops to self-interested politicians, from the samba 'schools' to humble slums of the "favelas". Following Alex's story, we discover the dark side of Rio de Janeiro, the wonderful city, a scenario for criminality, violence and corruption.
