Director Atsushi Shimizu adapted the short manga of the same title, as one of the omnibus movies "Kazuo Umezu Horror Theater" produced to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the debut of Kazuo Umezu, a horror manga artist. An elementary school student, Hitoshi, lives a lonely life without friends. One day, he makes a doll out of a piece of wood he found in a garbage dump, names it Mokume, and begins to treat it like a friend. Eventually, he becomes friends with a girl who goes to the same cram school, and decides to throw Mokume away.
