The most frightening scenes are staged, with no harm to the tame birds used in the film. These are: apparent shooting of wild geese, trapping of a goose in tar at an industrial site (it was freed immediately after stopping the cameras), the apparent mobbing and devouring of a bird by African crabs (an injured bird being followed by crabs was replaced by a shot of crabs trying to get a bite of a fish washed up on the shore--the bird cannot be seen in this shot).
