Diane and Amy are in a car accident that leaves Amy with aTbroken arm and Diane in critical condition at the hospital. She has bumps and bruises and a big cut on one of her hands.

Amy's mother is involved with an abusive man who slaps the mother and is physical with Amy, too. He is seen pushing Amy to the ground and even hitting Amy's puppy.

Amy's mother is an alcoholic who is attempting to recover. She is seen at AA meetings sometimes.

A drunk driver hits Diane and Amy's car.

When Amy's puppy misbehaves, her mother's boyfriend gets a pillowcase and threatens to kill him. Amy tries to run away with the puppy, but the boyfriend catches her. He puts the puppy into the pillowcase and throws him into a river. Amy is crying and very upset. She even jumps in to save the dog. She is hospitalized briefly, but she and the puppy are both okay.

Julia has a few "episodes" as a result of her genetic illness. She is hospitalized sometimes, too. It can be frightening for some younger viewers.
