Mumu (1959)

In 19th century Russia, Gerasim, a physically large, deaf-mute peasant, is brought from the rural village where he grew up to Moscow to work as a porter for Tatyana a wealthy high-society girl. Gerasim dislikes the city life until he finds solace in the form of a young puppy whom he saves and raises as his own.
