The scruffy orphaned shoeshiner, Vasilis Maras, struggles to eke out a living by polishing boots, hoping that, one day, he may fulfil his noble aspiration to get a proper education. However, with his innocent mother, Anna, wrongfully convicted of murder, Vasilis' dreams of a better life will start fading away. With the help of the good-hearted advocate, Yorgos Karalis, the improbable team will leave no stone unturned to prove the poor woman's inculpability; however, this is easier said than done. Vasilis swears that the much-needed evidence lies hidden in the deceased's grey personal diary; however, it is nowhere to be found. But, does such notebook exist?
