Russia, 1905. Tevye is the only Jew living in the village of Antevka. He is very poor but things change when, as a token of gratitude for a service rendered, he is given a cow and some food. Now, his wife, his seven daughters and himself have access to a better life. Tevye sells his milk and his butter. Moreover, he is now able to give his daughters a dowry and marry them. But you can't buy happiness. Indeed, Zeitel, the eldest sister, marries only a poor Jewish tailor. The second one weds a young revolutionary and follows him in exile. The third one, pregnant and abandoned by her lover, commits suicide. As for the fourth girl, she is repudiated by Tevye for marrying the son of the orthodox priest. However, Tevye still hopes the best for his three remaining daughters.Unfortunately, this the time of pogroms and one is organized in the village. And against whose house? Tevye's of course, as he is the only Jewish villager. Father, mother and their three daughters refuse to despair. They decide to flee Russia and to seek the Land of Milk and Honey promised by the Bible.
