The Warsaw water pump station called "The Thick Kate" does not have a good reputation. Her crew does not pay much attention to work, rather reluctant attitude to duties results in frequent water supply failures complained of by city residents. The company's director comes across a surprising way to heal the situation and raise the morale of the crew. Well ... he employs a young poet Leopold Gorski, so that his songs would enliven the sleepy atmosphere and stimulate the work of employees.
