On their wedding night because of a dispute over her dowry, bride and groom sleep separately, the groom on the floor in his sleeping bag and the bride in the bedroom.

A man and woman embrace. The next morning, it's obvious from the man's demeanor exiting the bedroom that the marriage had been consummated that night.

A few kisses, including one of which the woman was resistant at first.

A few minor comments that have a very slight sexual overtone e.g. upon seeing a large bed that has been broken, a character comments "Homeric!"

One man wants to fight another man, swinging at him, but the second man refuses and dodges away.

A wife is dragged against her will approximately five miles with the occasional smack or kick on the butt. Along the way, a woman offers the husband doing the dragging "a nice stick to beat the lovely lady." He takes it and holds it.

An extended and fairly comedic fist fight.

Sean censors himself from a mild swear word (it half comes out before he changes it to a less offensive word which he also cuts off halfway through) because he is speaking to a woman.

A few scenes take place in a bar where men drink beer and whiskey.

The main character smokes cigarettes several times.

Regular consumption of alcohol (beer and whiskey), especially by Michaleen, and Irish beer songs. There is a particularly comedic scene where Michaleen shows up very drunk at Mary Kate's house to propose the courtship of Sean Thorton.

In one brief scene two of the primary characters are presumably intoxicated.

Many casual instances of smoking pipes and cigarettes.

The climactic fight, although meant to be humorous, is intense.

A few instances of arguments and yelling.

The physical restraint and dragging of a woman may be seen as abusive. However the woman is not hurt or overly offended.
