There is a reference to a Geisha party hosted for government officials

There is a scene where two men attend a striptease show. Even though the dancer is covered by sheer material, veils and scarves, her for can be seen through the fabric, especially her buttocks. There is no actual bare nudity seen here but it is very suggestive. The camera pans down to her lower leg area (and the faces of our two characters) and based on the reaction of the audience, it is suggested that she removed the covering of her upper body.

A man is threatened by men who are implied to be gangsters. They threaten his life, although they never follow through.

Some minor profanity ("hell"). Depending on the edition of the movie you watch, there's also one use of "f_ck" which appears in the English subtitles. It's not present on the Criterion Blu-ray though.

Throughout the film characters drink sake. This ranges from mild social drinking, to men drinking till drunk, to a man drinking till he is extremely drunk even though he has stomach cancer and knows drinking the quantities he drinks will only hasten his death.

Viewers that are sensitive, especially when it comes to natural death, particularly cancer, may be upset by this film.
