Journey Into Fear (1943)

An American ballistics expert, returning to the U.S. with his wife after some work on behalf of the Turkish government, finds himself pursued by German agents, who are out to kill him. Without a word to his wife, he is put a board a ship by the Turkish secret police, only to find, after the ship sails, that the agents have followed him.
