The antagonist of the film, Marya, is implied to be lesbian. There is one scene which struck up much controversy when the film was initially released, in which Marya asks a girl she picked up from the streets to pose for her to paint a picture of. The girl undresses part ways exposing her shoulders and some cleavage all the while Marya stares leering at her before attacking her off screen. (Rape is implied as the girl later recounts in horror of the feelings she is plagued with before dying.)

Marya preys upon some people offscreen. Two men shoot at each other at the ending with crossbows and guns.

Dracula is shown dead at the beginning with a wooden stake protruding from his chest.

Some liquor is drunk at a party as well as at a wedding. A man smokes a cigar before being attacked by Marya. Some other smoking.

Aside from the aforementioned scene of Marya's attack on the girl, not many other scenes are frightening. Marya is meant to be a tragic character who tries unsuccessfully to become a human after her father's downfall. Marya later kidnaps the heroine and threatens to kill and/or turn her into a vampire.
