Plot revolves around a single woman who falls in love with a married man. Their affair is merely hinted at when a friend spots the man's convertible by the side of the road. The couple is then seen returning from a walk through the woods. When she becomes pregnant, his father offers offers to arrange adoption of the child to his son and daughter-in-law, who had been unable to conceive.

The protagonist is seen being the life of the party in the bar. She also is seen to be drinking rather heavier than average during a surprise meeting. Frequent cigarette smoking as was typical of the era.
