Horses and oxen are whipped on occasion, although it's only done to move them, and not in a way that is deliberately abusive.

In one scene the aftermath of a massacre is shown, although only the smoldering remnants of wagons are visible. A survivor is briefly shown who seems to have a bloodied shirt but otherwise appears physically unharmed, although visibly distressed. He mentioned that everyone else perished.

A young woman is injured by an arrow, and it is shown embedded in her body.

There are a few isolated instances of men shown being shot, and presumably killed.

There is a scene in which several men are hunting bison for its meat. The only explicit violence that is shown is the body of a dead bison after it is stabbed at close range. The bison is later briefly shown after being cooked to eat.

A few mentions of liquor, drunkenness, and sobriety.

Two men are shown drinking together, and in another case a man is shown drinking a somewhat large amount to get drunk.

A man falls off a horse. He then gets trapped in quick sand or something resembling it, and is saved not too long after. Strangely the man that saved him seems to threaten/want to throw him back in.

In a risky stunt, two men take turns shooting drinking mugs placed on top of each other's heads; neither of them miss. They may have been somewhat drunk as this was happening, as they were drinking in the previous scene.
