Marital infidelity, real and perceived, drives much of the plot.

A man wakes up tied to a bedframe, nude except for a minimal cup hiding his genitals. His rear is not visible. This scene lasts a while. We learn that he had sex with a woman the night before.

A man and woman share a couple of quick romantic kisses.

A man momentarily misinterprets a housemaid kneeling and cleaning another man's trousers, seen from behind, as a sex act played for comedic effect.

A large wall painting of nude angels and cherubs is visible briefly a couple of times. Breasts are visible; genitals are obscured, distant, or without detail.

A woman dresses in skimpy attire with noticeable cleavage to distress a man's wife.

Gun violence plays a major role in the plot. Duels to the death are tacitly accepted by prominent citizens as a way of settling grudges, contrary to their legal status in the story, and it's implied that choosing not to duel is an act of cowardice. It's made clear that not everyone agrees with this.

A man is shot. Blood stains his shirt and floods out of his mouth.

A man with a shotgun is portrayed as threatening. We also see him hunt squirrels. The deaths are not shown, just one dead squirrel on his shoulder.

A man dies of asphyxiation. He's shown with bulging eyes and protruding tongue.

A building is destroyed by arson in an attempt to kill people.

A man is punched in the face, with copious bleeding.

Two women fight, wrestling and hitting each other.

Wine is consumed; this isn't emphasized. A character starts to light a pipe, but stops. These scenes are brief.

Deaths are gory or grotesque. Marital arguments are loud and vehement.
