Many characters are killed and mortally wounded/scarred. Some evil characters are merciless and often kill weak, defenseless characters - including young/child ones. Heaven and Hell and other elements of the Afterlife appeared, though Akira Toriyama's take on the afterlife is actually quite comedic. The show does contain violent scenes, including scenes where characters are impaled, however no innards or explicit content on the characters are usually shown, aside from blood.

In the English dub, minced oath words like "heck", "darn", "crud", "goodness" and "gosh" are mostly used, and mild language are rare, with little to none, such as "hell", "damn", "bastard", "ass", "piss" and "crap".
