A little girl stands on the kitchen counter. She trips and falls, the power goes out in the apartment, and glass shatters everywhere. She isn't badly hurt, but she curls up in the dark and hides until the police take her away.

In some VHS copies of this film, a preview shot is featured at the beginning, showing Abby and her mom both crying in agony and screaming as they are taken away from each other.

Abby is kept at a children's center where the other foster kids bully her and tease her. They steal her stuffed teddy bear and rip it apart in front of her. Rather than putting a stop to it and punishing the bullies, the worker on duty ignores it.

The mom is harassed and talked down to by the courts, the social workers and the lawyers.

Abby does a "Cherokee Princess" dance. She moves her hand over her mouth, wears a stereotypical costume and listens to a pop song on her stereo which is supposed to resemble Native American music. This might be considered out of date and offensive to some viewers.

"Hell", "damn" are said a couple of times.

Some mild name-calling.

Police investigating the mom's home find a needle, which they think it for heroin. It turns out to be an insulin syringe for diabetes.

A man drinks beer.

In various scenes a little girl cries in agony as the cops separate her from her mother.

The girl is bullied by other foster children and they rip apart her stuffed animal.

The mom breaks down and cries when her child is locked up.

Abby getting injured in the dark at home and the cops searching for her is very intense.
