The plot and much dialog revolve around themes of incest, and of historical insistence of the Christian Church and European society that unmarried women remain virgins.

All content here refers to the 1 hour 40 minute version dubbed in English; a 2 hour 20 minute Italian version also exists. One human sex scene of a few minutes between Giovanni and his sister Annabella, with female breasts and male chest and butt visible and some moaning and thrusting. A couple of other scenes show intentions of various persons to initiate sex.

Two horses mate. The stallion mounting the mare is seen for a while. An erection and penetration are fleetingly visible.

An unclothed dead man is lifted onto a pallet, with full rear and full frontal nudity for several minutes at medium distance.

A character drenched in blood parades around a room for several minutes carrying a (not very realistic) bloody human heart.

A large group of people are murdered by stabbing over a period of a couple of minutes, with a lot of screaming, some blood, and lingering views of corpses, some with eyes open.

A man batters a woman, throwing her to the ground repeatedly, and tying her to a hot vase.

A person's head is chopped off, but the scene cuts and goes dark. It isn't gory.

A person is stabbed to death, but we only see the victim's facial expression.

A character falls some distance into a dry well, obviously in pain but not visibly injured.

A priest suggests someone could be executed for "immoral" sexual activity.

None.

None other than perhaps a tiny bit of social drinking.

The lengthy climax and resolution are extremely bloody. Several of the scenes of violence are intense and disturbing.
