After the untimely death of her best friend, Rachel takes on the responsibility of parenting her Godson Chandler, a young black male. She soon becomes worried for his safety and her capacity to parent when a news report details the murder of a young black male by police. Traumatized by this grim reality, Rachel decides to celebrate his half birthday.
