The short film called "Discarded" is about an 8 year old Afghani refugee boy who now lives on the streets of Karachi, Pakistan. He is a victim of a bloody war that has wreaked havoc in Afghanistan, forcing people to flee to the neighborhood countries specially Pakistan. Afghanistan is still one of the most dangerous countries for children. According to many estimates there are at least 1.5 million children who work and live on the streets of Pakistan. They are also prone to drug addition and militancy. These children lost their parents due to war and violence. These children are regularly sexually abused including exploited as prostitutes by the people they encounter all day. These children face traumatic experiences on a daily basis often too young to understand, leading to severe emotional distress. The main character (boy) collects recyclable plastic from the garbage dumbs making almost 2 US dollars a day. He ends up paying majority of his earnings to the street mafia. And he is not alone, there are tens of thousands of such children living in same conditions. Discarded summarizes the daily life of such a child.
