"Carpathian Karma" is a 20 year long-time observation, starting 1995, when a German camera team accidentally met a young man called Joshka in his Romanian Carpat village. Six years ago Joschka was attacked by a bear and critically wounded in 1989 when he was 17. He survived and was operated 62 times in Romania and Hungary - but his destroyed face could not be restored. The horrible pictures of Joshka in German TV initiated a big donation campaign and he was invited to come for some more 12 operations to Germany. After this he returned back in his village and lives there since 1997 in his family. The documentary accompanies the life of a man from 1995 till 2016 in one of the most impoverished regions in Europe - between trauma and stigma and between hope and resignation.
