Ashes (2018)

Death, sister issues and a bigger journey than any road trip. Ashes deals with the universal theme of death and family life with a sprinkling of dark humour - following two estranged sisters, Erica and her big sister Penny, who both seem to have nothing in common apart from the fact that they need to come together, trapped in an old Volvo, to lay their difficult mother's ashes to rest in Whitehaven - the destination of their last happy family holiday. Erica, 26, lives for spending the weekend with best mate Si, who weirdly has come along for the ride - they literally do everything together. As Penny constantly tries to do the right thing she's spurned by Erica - who is resentful that Penny not only left the family home but also left her behind. Their goal is to park up, leave the memories of the past behind and go their separate ways again - this time for good. Well at least, that's their plan.
