Chasing Marlon studies the complex, and much debated, relationship between two of the all time great actors - Marlon Brando and James Dean. The film explores the themes of obsession and idolatry. It's 1954 in New York and the young, rising star, James Dean is trying to get into a party. Not just any party - a party at which the established mega-star, Marlon Brando, is in attendance. His friend Dodie is there and he bombards her with phone calls, begging to be let in. No chance. Later on that night, Dodie comes back to James' place and recalls her encounter with Brando. James, ever the actor, makes her play out the scene blow-by-blow. James becomes so immersed in the make believe scenario, that he actually sees Brando and starts interacting with him. The encounter comes to a climax as James realises that his hero isn't everything he thought he would be.
