On November 18, 1978, more than 900 people, the majority of them African American women, died in a mass suicide/murder at the Peoples Temple Settlement in Jonestown, Guyana. For the first time in film/fiction history, White Nights, Black Paradise explores the interlocking relationships, moral dilemmas and radical politics of a multi-generational group of African American women who emigrated to Jonestown in search of self-determination and racial utopia
