We see one person's neck snapped. Another character dies by accident. And one person commits suicide by drowning. None of these are presented in a bloody or gross way; they all have peaceful appearances afterward.
A minute-long scene of attempted rape occurs with the complicity of the victim's father. Another character attacks and rapes another woman, visibly thrusting. This scene is loud and of similar length. No nudity occurs in either.
There are a few scuffles.
Plague kills several people. For a couple of seconds each time we see their faces which have turned black. This is a black-and-white film, which makes the scenes less disturbing.
Kratts - animated mechanisms with souls, made of household and farm implements - are physically abused in various ways by the peasants. One kratt threatens a man with sharp implements. A kratt's head explodes in frustration.
We see a character take a bite of a love potion bread loaf that is made with sweat, armpit hairs, and feces. Stringy material briefly hangs from the mouth.
Animals: A dangerous pig is implied to be killed with a scythe. We see a calf forcibly hauled into the air with a chain. A witch has dead animals in her larder, but these are barely seen in the dark. We see a few feathers plucked from a chicken (for dinner), and hear references to slaughtering a pig, slitting its throat.
There's not much visible blood in this black-and-white film. A statue bleeds a little, and we see a plume of blood in water. A Bible bleeds a little. A man's neck is scratched.
Other gore: People line up and spit out objects into a bucket. The Devil spits all over a book. A kratt spits oily goo onto a man's face. And another kratt urinates in a bucket.
A man hits his daughter across the face during a scuffle.
A character is stabbed in the back with a table fork.
