In Japan, elderly people committing suicides and the culling of dogs have become a societal problem. There are 24,000 suicides committed every year, which translates to about 300 people per day. Most of these people are jobless elderly males and about 60% of them committed suicide due to health problems, followed by financial and family problems. On the other hand, 22,000 dogs are culled every year. Most of these abandoned dogs are brought into health care centers. Why are so many precious lives lost? We think that behind this tragedy of 'losing one's place' from human solitude and the abandonment of raising dogs, is actually a defect in our societal system and that people are averting their eyes away by saying that these things are 'inevitable'. While it might be difficult to solve this problem all at once, but at the very least, shouldn't we try to at least change our mindset about this? Encounters between abandoned men and abandoned dogs. In the corner of the city there secretly lives one man and one dog. The man and the dog will welcome the last day of their lives with 'dying alone' and 'culling' respectively.
