Five Kingdoms Trilogy - 1 - The Forest

Anandas the Monk lives in a time where Electricity is a new invention, Water, Fire, Steam, and Wind are the main forms of energy. Anandas is on a retreat at The Hermitage, to retain the land in the forested valley for the Monastery. He falls afoul of the townsfolk in Victorbius, and is tested as to his resolve to stay for the full year at The Hermitage.
