Xiao Pengke is a twenty-year-old singer who performs at rock concerts in Shanghai. Her songs are poems that talk of the ashes of the myth of the cultural revolution. The story of her vagabond life is a portrait of modern-day China, from the importance of consumerism to the increasing loss of values in this country which is undergoing major transformation. Xiao Pengke grew up with the fear of being a woman in a system in which the destiny of girls seems to already be written. She decided that things would be different for her and made music her companion, becoming an icon of the punk movement which is arriving in China thirty years late.
