Florida Field Journal: Not Long Ago (2015)

The voters in Florida have set aside forever wild areas to preserve the rare and unique natural resources of this state. However, some politicians have a unique definition of forever. Not Long Ago traces the near extinction of alligators and birds and the successful recovery of these species. However, once again some people see profit in exploiting public lands. If they get their way, we will point to mined, timbered, grazed and shot-over lands and say, 'Not Long Ago'.
