The boastful soldier, Jacob von Tyboe, and the learned pedant, Magister Stygotius, both love Lucilia and seek to decimate each other in the eyes of the beautiful. The parasite guest Jesper Oldfux, however, gets the cards shuffled in such a way that Leonora, Lucilia's mother, does not want to know about any of the suitors, but promises the daughter away to the young Leonard.
