Joe, a chronic alcoholic, is seen driving far away from civilization. He is upset, confused and unfocused. His counselor, Nick, calls him on his cellphone, and he stops the car to speak with him. Joe explains to Nick that Maria (Joe's wife) is dead and that he's going to say goodbye to her at the 'Old Farmhouse', which is where the couple first met. Nick tries to intervene but Joe ends the call on him. Even more upset, Joe drives off and eventually reaches his destination. He climbs out the car and, making sure no one is around, opens the trunk of the car and hauls out a body, wrapped in black plastic. We see a flashback of Maria searching the kitchen and finding a hidden bottle of booze. Joe begins to bury the body as we see flashbacks that reveal a confrontation between Joe and Maria in their kitchen. Joe tries to get Maria to put the knife down, which turns into a scuffle, and ends up with Maria getting stabbed in her side. They lock eyes for the last time. Having finished burying his wife, Joe sits against his car and waits for the police to arrive - resigning to his fate. The film goes back to the start where we see Joe swigging from his bottle, even though he's already killed his wife because of it, showing his complete loss of self control.
