A documentary explaining Lee deForest's development of "Phonofilm", a sound-on-film system in the 1920's, and his unsuccessful attempts to have the system adopted by major studios. The film contains parts of many Phonofilms released in the 1920's, including performances by vaudeville stars Weber and Fields, Eddie Cantor, and Fannie Ward.
