Karen and Anders Nielsen (Wegener and Helmuth) have passed the silver wedding, and they are happy with their daughter and granddaughter, friends and family. They still stick together and have been good at storing troublesome conflicts out of the way in closed drawers. However, when Karen is hospitalized and operated on for breast cancer, the family is thrown into a profound crisis.
