The Lost Redwood (2019)

A rare tree species known only in fossil form is discovered alive and well in a remote valley in China in the 1940s. The ensuing battle over scientific credit overshadows the tree's hearty reintroduction to multiple continents. Its human-assisted re-emergence eventually leads to Metasequoia's designation as the official state fossil of Oregon, where the reintroduced tree made its first cones on US soil in over five million years.
