Becoming (El Devenir) (2021)

Evil has no consequences for an affluent Mexican young boy in this disturbing coming-of-age story about toxic masculinity and class inequality. Inspired by true events, the film is set in 1990s LA about a day in the life of two Mexican immigrants, Diego a sensitive six-year-old boy, born into an abusive upper-class family and Mireya, an indigenous young woman from Michoacan who works for Diego's family as a housekeeper. Through what seems to be an innocent game, Diego reaches a deadly breaking point, defining the man he will become.
