For much of the last decade, the nationally ranked Martinsburg High School football team has been one of the most dominant programs in the country. However, the city represents ground zero for the heroin and opioid epidemic that has destroyed so many small towns across the country. West Virginia has the highest drug overdose death rate of any state in the country. For Martinsburg, football is a source of hope. Addicted to winning is a story of perseverance; a juxtaposition between a high school football powerhouse and a community destroyed by the nation's most deadly epidemic.
