Exit the shelter is a participatory short documentary where the director searches for the people responsible for the mass killing of pets in the U.S., compares the situation with her country in which unwanted pets live freely on the streets and promotes a change in pet owners' behavior in order to reduce the euthanasia rate. The short was shot in different cities in California and in Montevideo (Uruguay), includes the participation of activists, animal shelters supervisors, representatives of private animals organizations, and California Assemblymember, Bill Quirk, who eliminated the use of gas chambers in the state. The documentary also has the support of Los Angeles Animal Services, Riverside County Animal Services, and Michelson Found Animals organization.
