The show features no nudity or sex. Although there is one scene where a man and a woman passionately kiss. This scene only lasts for 3 seconds and can be missed sometimes. Other than that there really isn't anything else to be noteworthy of.

A man is sliced by a blade. Blood can be scene splattering on the ground.

There are mild-moderate scenes of battles. They show blood but its not very clear and its easy to miss it.

No hard profanity what-so-ever.

Some people are seen drinking alcohol. This is not too bad since it is part of the culture.

This series can get quite intense sometimes. Ages 12+ can probably handle this.

Lots of people die throughout the series.

An elderly woman commits suicide off a boat and takes a small child with her. They both die.

In one episode there is a scene of mass suicide. Some live, some die.

The "Biwa" is a big part of this series. The Biwa is an instrument. Sometimes in scenes of battles, etc the Biwa can be heard strumming and it slowly gets louder. This can get very intense.
