Sara Maitland is a British novelist, poet and self-described freelance intellectual. This interview explores her life as well as her writing and individualistic spiritual and philosophical convictions. She describes her childhood, her formative influences and considers what she regards as the key issues of our age. Maitland has a libertarian take on feminism, censorship and religion. Also described are her relationship, supposed and actual, with Angela Carter and the remarkable experience of working with Stanley Kubrick on his AI project. One of Maitland's short stories was adapted into Asif Kapadia's feature film, Far North.
